First I had a dream. I was dreaming and planning for months…I envisioned gentle and well behaved goats browsing nicely at our lucious green pasture…I imagined buckets full of milk and me making butter, cheeses and other dairy products.
One year passed and what do I have? Goat people doesn't have to guess the answer, because they know :)
I have two spoiled brats, lot of destruction and no milk!
Their names are MOLLY and LOLLY. They are almost one year old Lamancha females.

I purchased them from a local goat breeder when they were 2 weeks old. It was March and pretty cold. I kept them in a kitchen and bottle feed them. Till this day, they remember that kitchen and any chance they get (when someone forget to close the door to the house) they are right in! They even managed to get in through open kitchen window!
They appeared to be in heat several times during last fall. After extensive research locally, I found a buck for them.
I wanted their babies to be smaller for the first time (easier birth) and I borrowed a Nigerian Dwarf.
"Bucky" joined our herd right after Thanksgiving Day. Now the final result remains to be seen!

Billy is a very sweet and lovable boy! Very obeyful and he doesn't smell at all! He is not very found of hair brushing like Molly and Lolly. I need to forcefully keep him to manage few brushing strokes. Although he eats from my hand and is gentle about, while LaManchas trying to swallow my hand! I'm going to have a hard time to return him back :( |
I'm still hanging up to the dream about milk! Hopefully this billy boy did something right!
Last summer, we built a goat barn, so they have a warm and cozy place to spend a winter in.
Next plan is to finish fencing designated piece of land and keep all the goats there. As of now they have a total freedom, which is resulting in total destruction to my flowers and other demolitions...
Not much longer goaties-you will be confined!
